Abolish Poverty, End Suffering

Our congregations are involved in several local programs aimed at the mission initiative of Abolish Poverty, End Suffering:

Chandler

Shoe Box Program - Every month we collect funds and fill shoe boxes for the Salvation Army to hand out to the homeless. Boxes include socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other personal hygiene items.

Just One Thing - Every week we make donations to the Chandler Christian Community Center Food Bank. Members of the congregation sign up to bring just one food item and add that to their families grocery list each week to then donate.

I-Help (Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program) - This program is thru the Chandler Christian Community Center and every 4th Saturday of the month, we will open our doors to approx. 20 homeless people for the night. We will provide, serve and join them for dinner that night, breakfast the next morning and send them off with a sack lunch. The program provides for someone to stay overnight.

Manna Bags - Throughout the year we fill and hand out bags of non-perishable food items to the homeless and hungry.

Thunderbird West

Food Bank - We support a local food bank with regular donations.

Feinstein Foundation

Tucson Central

Partnering with Interfaith Community Services, a network of over 70 faith communities, we support the following programs:

Adopt families at Christmas - providing gifts and food gift cards

Food Bank

Empty Bowls Fundraiser - At the event you can purchase hand thrown pottery bowls for $15 and have it filled with soup made by local chefs. We volunteer to keep the tables clean and help guide people through the event.

CROP Walk - A walk that raised funds to help end hunger.

Mesa

Food Bank - We purchase a list of staple items and deliver them to a food bank we support through one of our local elementary schools

Jacob's Journey House - We have formed a relationship with this halfway house for the homeless. Some of our members volunteer and/or share needed items and our women's group occasionally will takes in a meal to share along with worship.

Adopt families at Christmas - We adopt 2 to 3 families every year who are recommended to us by local elementary school nurses.

Phoenix Central

Manna Bags - Twice a year the junior high class fills bags with non-perishable food items to hand out to the homeless and hungry.
