Putting Faith into Action
This month our work on the Mission Center’s 2011 budget moves forward. At the Mission Center Council meeting on the 11th we will take a look at a proposed budget which has been structured to match the directives from the May visioning process. While this sounds confusing, we hope that by the time Mission Center Conference happens on December 4, it all becomes very clear. The process calls for us to put our faith into action—taking what we want to happen in 2011 and creating a budget, a calendar, and finding key people to make things happen. This process isn’t really new, but it is my first time in working on the entire process with you. The directives from the May visioning process by the Mission Center Council includes strengthening in our congregations our leadership development, evangelism, life-long disciple formation, worship, young adult ministry, youth ministry, and children’s ministry. As each congregation has it’s business meeting, Diana Hansen and I plan to be with you and to share the mission center budget. Our hope is that through the budget, ministry in your congregation may be strengthened and faith will be put into action in new and creative ways.

Mission Center to Select Two Members for National Conference Advisory Team at Mission Center Conference
The USA Apostle Team seeks the participation of two members from each mission center to serve on a special Advisory Team to review and provide feedback throughout the process that leads to the USA National Conference in July 2012. This Advisory Team will work with the USA Apostles to ensure that diversity of perspective on issues about relationships, marriage and ordination (e.g. same-gender marriage and ordination) is included in the experiences and resources developed to assist the membership in the discernment process. All Advisory Team meetings will take place via teleconferencing, email and web streaming. At times the Advisory Team may function in smaller sub groups to accommodate different time zones or to address different task responsibilities. The Arizona Mission Center will select the Advisory Team members at mission center conference on December 4. Additional information is attached to this Weekly Update. More information about the USA National Conference can be found at the following website: http://www.cofchrist.org/USAConf/.
Note: During the Arizona Summer Reunion, questions were asked about the National Conference, including whether the quorums, orders, and mass meetings be a part of the conference, what provisions will be made for post-conference reading regardless of the outcome, and whether there will be additional national conferences beyond 2012. Apostle Scott Murphy said that all three questions were being considered by the USA Apostle Team but that no decision has been made on any of the issues at this time.
